If you haven’t already worked it out, I am a millennial. I love my skinny jeans and ankle boots, but I’m well aware that those aren’t “in” any more. Here’s a little bit of background. I was living my happy millennial fashion life up until Covid. Then I got pregnant, went through postpartum, lost a sense of identity, learned a whole lot about myself, and moved countries. Hence, my personal style was all over the place, and it took me awhile to find out what works for me. That being said, I love my millennial staples, and I don’t want to spend $$ on a whole new wardrobe for the next decade. Therefore, here are my three millennial staples I’m still holding on as we get into the Fall 2024- and how I’d style them today.
Skinny Jeans-I love my skinny jeans, and I have many. So here’s how I’d wear them today
- Pair them with a boxy sweater/t-shirt-balance out the tight lower half with a looser upper half
- Add a trench coat instead of a cardigan-trenches are definitely a thing this season
- Accessorize with a knee high boot, a calf-length boot, sneaker, loafer or Mary Jane/ballet flat-First of all thank goodness knee high boots are back-I will invest in some. I also have booties that go above the ankle, which I’m looking forward to using. And one cannot go wrong with sneakers, chunky loafers, or Mary Janes.
Ankle Boots-Skinny jeans and ankle boots were my fashion formula. Thus, I have a lot of ankle boots. However, I have learned two things: they’re not “on trend” this year, and the break between the skinny jean and ankle boot actually makes our legs look shorter. So we’re using them in one very simple way: pairing them with the longer pants: the flares, wide legs, straight cuts. Basically any jean cut that runs over the ankle, one can wear an ankle boot without it actually appearing like an ankle boot
Ballet Flats-Another aspect of my millennial fashion formula-ballet flats to go with the skinny jeans. So the thing is: flats are here to stay. However, one can style them with wider bottom jeans or even a dress. Basically to make them current, avoid the skinny jeans with the flats-unless the flats are Mary Jane style.
So those are some of the ways I will be taking my millennial staples into fall of 2024. Of course, a part of me will aways want to do a classic milennial look. But it doesn’t hurt to try something new right?
