PostPartum Fashion Must-Haves for the 4th Trimester and Beyond

So I’m now about 6 1/2 weeks postpartum, and it’s been quite the rollercoaster. In fact, rollercoaster is an understatement. Simply learning all things mom related-from understanding how and when to feed my baby to what cry means what-it’s a lot. Even figuring out the appropriate clothing to wear is a challenge. As a breastfeeding mom, my main priority is to make my clothing as accessible as possible so it’s easy for me to feed. But accessible doesn’t mean it can’t be cute either. Cute clothes are always important. You gotta feel good in whatever you wear no matter what phase of life you’re in. So below are a few postpartum must haves that have been absolute lifesavers for me.

Nursing Bras-Do I need to explain this? I’m living in these. Whether it’s pumping or feeding, good nursing bras are essential to just make everything more comfortable. I even sleep in them.

Compression Clothing (leggings, Underwear etc.)-I found that compression clothing is perfect to wear to get back into shape. After getting the all-clear from my doctor 2 weeks postpartum, I was able to slip into postpartum underwear and/or leggings, which really helped speed up the process of my stomach returning to normal size. At this point, I’m able to fit into my pre-pregnancy size, and once I start working out, I’ll be able be to tone my stomach back up again.

Feeding tops/Dresses/Poncho/Pajamas-When it comes to feeding clothes, we have a tendency to avoid purchasing them because the use is comparatively temporary in the long term. However, investing in a few key pieces during this phase just makes everything more accessible. Thankfully,  I’ve come across so many brands here in India that provide the perfect clothing for nursing and feeding from tops on Mama Couture to ponchos on Wobbly Walk. Decent nursing clothes are a must-have for daily wear.

Feeding Gown-For the days I’m not wearing feeding clothes-like a cute dress-I highly suggest investing in a feeding gown. I’ve got my hands on a feeding kaftan from Belly and Bean, which is super easy to slip into for a quick pump or a feed. It is another staple which I find myself using more than I actually thought I would. Therefore, I highly recommend!

Button Down Tops-The most obvious clothing item for feeding are your button down shirts and tops. Super easy and accessible, yet cute at the same time.

So there you have it. Your postpartum/nursing must haves to get you through those first few weeks! I am still using all of these items, and I highly recommend any new mom to use them. What would you think works best for you?
