So…not going to lie, I had a different blog post planned for this week, but that can be for another time. Here’s what is on top of mind this week: preschool and navigating it: we’ve been going through the phases over here: “what is this” to “separation anxiety” to “I think I get it.” in a little over a week. It’s been amazing and exhausting all at the same time. So here’s how its going:
Preschool Prep-We started prepping Aisha for preschool a couple months ago, when my husband and I would take her with us on the preschool tours just to see which place she felt the most comfortable. Once we finalized our school, the shopping started. I got a brand new sippy cup and backpack from Amazon, which definitely added to her excitement. The sippy cup is her favorite one and she always wants to drink her water from it! As far as her routine, we put her on a school morning schedule to ensure she got used sleeping and waking at the appropriate times.
Entering Preschool-Let me tell you, it’s definitely been a rollercoaster. We’re currently on a 3 days a week 1/2 day schedule and will work our way up to Mon-Fri. On the first day, Aisha was essentially moving with the flow, but by the time the 2nd day came around her anxiety was at its peak-she cried when I dropped her, and cried when I picked her up. On top of that, she’s doesn’t want to sleep in her crib, but right next to mommy in mommy’s bed-it’s been a lot. However, by day 3 we had some nerves but we accepted that school is a part of life now. And today as a type this, we’ve just completed day 4 and I am FINALLY able to set her up with an activity she likes and leave her to it-no tears or fussing. I call that a victory. Fingers Crossed the the sleeping arrangement gets adjusted as well.
I can’t believe she’s all grown up for nursery school! I love the tips you gave.
