My Most Current Morning Routine

Anyone and everyone who knows me is aware of my love for routines. All the routines: morning, evening, cleaning, workout, weekly, etc. The first ever routine I established was my morning one. However, it’s been a minute since I shared my updated morning routine. The last blog post around this was when changes were made to accommodate my daughter’s preschool schedule. But now, to add to that, my husband’s work hours have become even earlier than they were, and some tweaks have been made again-with some added wellness hacks. So here is my updated morning routine.

5 a.m Wakeup-I was waking up at 5 a.m. before, and now it’s feet on the ground at 5 a.m., and chugging some water. I have bottle of water right next to my pillow. So the first thing I do is drink water.

Breath work, Stretches, Pushups-So because my husband leaves super early, he’s in the bathroom. So I give him his time and head to the living room to open the windows (let in some fresh air), turn on the whole house fan, do some breath work, and stretches. I find that sitting in lotus pose really opens up my back and hips-which is an area I get tight, so doing the stretches really sets me up for the day. Finally, I’ve added a daily pushup challenge where I do the same number of pushups as my age.

Daily Wellness Liquids and Set up-After all of that is done, it’s around 5:30 a.m., and I head over to the kitchen. I take 3 different liquids in the morning on an empty stomach: warm honey lemon water for gut, a Yakult probiotic, and bone broth with spices for collagen. Through the course of drinking these liquids, I set up the next few steps of getting my smoothie and my breakfast ready to go. My morning smoothie is bananas, collagen powder, spinach, berries, and almond milk all placed in a blender which I mix and drink, and my breakfast is boiled egg and mashed avocado on ezekiel bread sprinkled with Everything But the Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s. So all the elements are out: bread in the toaster oven, egg sliced and set up to assemble right away.

Bathroom routine-Once the set up is done, it’s my turn in the bathroom. First thing is setting a 10 minute timer for oil pulling, and while that is going on, I change into my workout clothes, put on my contacts, etc. Once the oil is done, teeth are brushed and I eat breakfast.

Breakfast and Coffee Walk-While eating breakfast I like scrolling through Pinterest. That is the only social media app I use in the mornings-the rest of my phone is on Do Not Disturb until  7 a.m. By the time breakfast is done, it’s around 6:20, so now I prep my coffee. I’ve listened to enough podcasts to tell me to have coffee after a meal maybe an hour or so after waking up. Once coffee is made, I love to step outside especially now that the mornings are warmer. So from 6:25-6:35, I do an outdoor coffee walk, while listening to a podcast, and I’m in just in time for my daughter to wake up.

6:40 Getting ready for School-When my daughter wakes up, I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do so I’m able to devote my full attention to her. So I get her ready and amidst that make the beds, drink my smoothie, and just check last minute things. She’s usually ready by 7:15, which gives us about 10 minutes to choose a snack, put on shoes, load the car etc., and 7:25 we’re out the door.

8:00 Gym time-After drop off, I’m at the gym to start my day, which lasts about an hour. At 9 a.m. I spend 10 minutes in the steam/sauna and proceed to continue with the day-sometimes that is getting ready or running errands.

Errands/Work/Set up for tomorrow/Lunch-By 10 a.m., I’m usually transitioning to the next task. If I was out running errands, then I’m home to get ready, or if I was getting ready, I’m home getting some work done.  Basically I use this time to take care of whatever tasks I’ve set aside for myself-whether that is errands, attending appointments, or getting any kind of work done and I have lunch by 11:30 or so. Depending on the weather I like to eat outside, and by 12:15 I’m on my way to pick up my daughter from school.

And just like that, the morning routine is done :).
