My Current Evening Routine

So Aisha has been in school for almost 6 months now and we’ve finally reached a point where we are happy with our evening routine. We’ve gone through transitions to school, transition from 1 nap to none, and transition from bottle to no bottle at bedtime. Hence, there’s been a ton of adjustment and sleep regressions that have led to this point. So here is our current evening routine.

Starts at 6 :00 p.m.-I like to use this time to start the evening routine because it’s a good wind down from the day. At this time, we’re finishing up dinner and cleaning up the kitchen. I’m someone who has to have an empty sink, clean countertops, and a swept floor before closing the kitchen for the day. So I put on a podcast and just get to work. Around this time my daughter is wrapping up dinner as well and we just close shop for the day.

Skincare-After kitchen clean up I head to the bathroom for about 15 mins of self care, I do my skincare-wash, tone, skin cycling step (more on that in this post), eye cream, moisturizer, and facial massage; brush my teeth and just get into my comfy pjs for the evening.

Bath Time: By 6:45-7 it’s bath time, which entails a bathroom trip, playing in the tub, choosing the pajamas for the night, brush, and floss. She’s good to go by 7:30, where we enjoy our time as a family before turning in.

8:00 p.m. Bedtime- Honestly I can’t underestimate how much I look forward to this. Typically my daughter doesn’t really need me to put her to sleep, she just wants me to be there while she falls asleep. So I lay in bed with her, put on a show, turn down the brightness on my phone, and watch it until she falls asleep (about 15 mins or so)

8:15-20-9 p.m. Last bits of screentime- So now, finally she’s down I have my tech and my time to myself. So I use this to be in my laptop or phone and get some bits done before 9 p.m.

9:00 p.m. Bed and Book-The only way I can get any reading done ever is if it’s by my bedside. So that’s the last thing I do at the end of the day. Read a couple chapters of my book of the month in bed before going to bed-anytime between 9:30 and 10.

And that is my evening routine on a weeknight. It took a long long time to finally establish an evening routine that I was truly happy with where I got enough time to myself without needing to finish up chores or tasks. So here we are, and hope it lasts! What’s your favorite part about your evenings?

This is a very structured evening routine but I also like that you give wiggle time in case things get late. I also love that, despite being a busy mom, you give time to yourself in things such as Skin care, reading, screen time, etc.
