If there is one “old school” thing I don’t want to let go of, it’s reading books. Like a good, old-fashion book-that I can take with me wherever I go, without needing to charge it. Not a kindle, or any other tablet, but a book. With International Book Day this week, I thought I’d take a minute to to reflect on some of the most inspirational books I’ve read in the last couple of years. I’ve always loved reading, and I got back into it during the first lockdown. However, it took a backseat again after Aisha was born, yet I still try to pick up a book every week or so and get a few pages in. Nevertheless, there are definitely a few books that I read in my adult life, which I’ll definitely keep close to me or reread in a required moment. So check out the books below, and fun fact: they happen to all be books by female authors!
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero– This book the first Self-Help book I read back in 2019. At that time, I was going through a rough patch in my personal life, and my self-confidence had completely shattered. This book helped me take the first steps in putting myself back together. In fact, this is the first book that opened my mind to the Universe, and it allowed me to believe that I am so much more than I actually am.
Super Attractor by Gabby Bernstein-I came across Gabby Bernstein episode by Jay Shetty, and her words changed my life. The way she talked about the Universe and manifestation immediately shifted my perspective-so I knew I had to get her book. I’ve read the book twice. Once, after reading You are a Badass, and the second time when I was trying to conceive. Both times I had different experiences, but her words helped shift my mindset and move things forward. It is through her words, that I manifested Aisha.
In the Flo by Alisa Vitti-I came across her on a podcast as well-can’t remember which, but definitely a podcast (I think it was Women of Impact). However, her book literally explained my biology better than any high school or college text book every did. She introduced me to the Infradian Rhythm, explaining how a woman’s hormones fluctuate throughout the month-making certain times of the month optimal for certain tasks vs. others. She breaks down best time to do various types of motherhood tasks, work tasks, household tasks, and relationship tasks; and the best times to eat certain types of foods. I followed her guidelines loosely as an experiment and immediately saw a difference. Fun fact: approximately 3 months after following the book, I conceived Aisha.
A Radical Awakening by Dr. Shefali-I came across Dr. Shefali’s work on two different podcasts within the same week: On Purpose by Jay Shetty and Women of Impact by Lisa Bilyeu. I’m still working my way through this book, but she essentially breaks down how we as women can embrace our true power, in whatever roles we choose to play-as women of today, raising girls of tomorrow. You can see why I’m working through it can’t you??
So these are some of the books I have on my shelf, which I will always keep. They have opened my mind, changed my life, and have propelled me forward. Have you read any of these books??
I always love your book recommendations so I’m happy that you did a blog post about it. Thanks for putting this together.
