So pre Covid-19 lockdown, I made a mental note of wanting to explore the clean beauty and sustainable fashion space. Through multiple IGLives and research, I began realizing the impact of using clean ingredients and substances inside and outside your body and wanted to explore all aspects of it India. While it is a long process to come up with an informed opinion, I managed to get my hands on a couple fashion pieces and I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, wearing more sustainable clothing opened my mind to what else can be done within the styling space. So check out the pieces I tried!
The first piece I got was a cotton dress for Vajor, which is a sustainable modern Bohemian Fashion and Lifestyle brand with stores all over India. I came across this brand when I was stalking Niomi Smart’s Instagram post-and she was rocking a dress from Vajor. So therefore, after some window shopping, I
ordered the Brokovich Dress, which is a cotton, midi-length dress with a sash around the waist and a handkerchief hem. Honestly, I fell in love. The dress is so comfortable and so cooling that even in the super hot summer months, I don’t feel hot. It’s one piece of clothing that covers everything, and guess what, It has POCKETS! A dress with pockets! I don’t know about you, but I’m automatically sold whenever there are pockets. And not even those tiny pockets, like legit pockets where I can fit my phone.
This type of dress is a first for me in many aspects that I originally had reservations for:
- Pure Cotton-I always found it didn’t look as presentable-through this I learned that it depends on the quality of the fabric
- Midi Length-For some reason I thought it would be unflattering, but I actually really like it
- Handkerchief hem-I actually thought it would appear unfinished, but it actually adds interest to the dress.
The second piece I picked up in the Sustainable fashion space is from a Goa-based Vegan Fashion brand, which only has clothing made from Organic Cotton, which is perfect for the summer and monsoon months in India. The dress I picked up is the Danica Sack Dress, which has a bubble silhouette, making it super flattering for all body types. Thanks to the earlier piece, I was definitely more open to organic cotton so I was very excited when I received this in the mail. What I love about this dress is that it can be worn super lose and boho-ish or one can accessorize it with a belt to create a bit more structure. I also love the keyhole in the back. It just makes the dress more fun!
First of all, I’m so glad I started exploring the sustainable fashion space. I am pleasantly surprised with the pieces I found and my exploration is certainly far from over. Slowing down due to the pandemic definitely gave me perspective on what we were doing to our planet, which further sparked my transition in the clean space. I will keep you guys updated as I make more discoveries!
