Easy (and cheap) Ways to Decorate for the Holidays

If I had unlimited resources, I would go absolutely crazy decorating for Fall, Halloween, Diwali, Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, things get expensive and reality does not match my fantasy just yet. Yet, having done this for a few years now, I’ve come up with easy, budget friendly ways to make the spaces look super festive during the last quarter of the year. So for my girlies who have Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn dreams on a Walmart, Target, and Amazon budget: this list is for you!

Get Pieces that can be Re-used Multiple Times-The most obvious one: get items that can be reused year after year. Fake pumpkins go a long way. I have a few very cute pieces I got from Micheals a few years ago, and they’re still going strong. I might get some more this year!

Don’t Underestimate the Grocery store-Whether you’re looking at those adorable mini pumpkins, the pumpkin plants, browsing the in-season aisle, or getting that seasonal coffee creamer; you’ll find some serious gems. At my local grocery store I’ve found a few items that I love to put place on top of my fireplace, and I’m still waiting on that seasonal coffee creamer. It’s the little things that just add to the festive feel. Another aspect of grocery store festivities is the food! Fall to me screams soups and hearty veggies like butternut squash and brussel sprouts. One can easily create that Fall atmosphere in the home by making seasonal food!

Start Small-When it comes to decorating a home, it’s very easy to get carried away and it does get overwhelming. So in the beginning, start small. Focus on the central area in your home and just make that your corner. Then year after year, add bits and pieces to enhance the seasonal effect. For example, first year I moved back to the States, I focused on my fireplace; the year after I got seasonal pot holders and dish drying mats for the kitchen; this year: first year in our new house-I got some thematic bedding and one bougie decorative piece from Costco.

Thus, reusing items from previous years, adding some grocery store gems, and slowly building up year after year. Decorating for the holidays is supposed to be exciting and fun. So put on your favorite Fall show, make a pumpkin spice latte, and get to decorate. Happy Fall Ya’ll!

I love decorating with stuff from the grocery store too! So easy and don’t have to worry about storing it later (if you’re using food).
