Happy Earth Day! Although we are in quarantine, our Earth is healing and repairing itself, and it is remarkable to see. As I’ve said before, quarantine has given us the opportunity to basically go back to our roots by giving our hair and nails a break and exploring more holistic ways of taking care of ourselves. For me. one of the most interesting aspects is making natural face masks. Thanks to the Internet and books, I’ve been reminded about how basic kitchen ingredients can easily be mixed into soothing and wonderful face masks. So here are a few tried and tested concoctions I’ve used and highly recommend.
Please keep in mind, that my skin is combination to oily-therefore, I always strive to balance the oils on my face.
3 Ingredient GLOW Mask: I mentioned this one in my previous blog post. However, I originally discovered this on Vasudha Rai’s Instagram. I found it extremely soothing and perfect for the heat!
- 1/2 Tsp Raw Honey
- 1/2 Tsp Milk
- A few strands of Saffron
DIY Mint & Aloe Face Mask: Another extremely cooling face mask, to balance out the heat around us. I discovered this one on Mind Body Green.
- 2 Tsp of Raw Honey
- 1 Tsp of Aloe Vera Gel
- A few Drops of Rose Water
- 3-4 Fresh Mint Leaves
Kashmiri Saffron Scrub: A discovery from Vasudha Rai’s book, Glow, this scrub is a great to get that instant glow and reduce pigmentation. Personally, I experienced a little bit of redness right after washing it off. However, the following day my skin was as clear as glass. *AVOID this mask if you use acid toners or peels pads.
- 2 Tsp Coconut Oil/Almond Oil/Olive Oil
- A few strands of Saffron
- 1 Tsp of Castor Sugar
Aloe Skin Clearing Lep: I loved this one. Another one from Vasudha Rai’s book, Glow, it’s extremely soothing.
- 1 Tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
- 1 Tbsp Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth)
- A Pinch of Turmeric
- 1 Tsp Honey
- A few drops of Rose Water
Matcha Cucumber Mint Face Mask: Personally, I could never develop the taste for matcha, and as a result, I have Matcha powder at home. So after searching through Pinterest, I came across this goopy, deep green mask on Kale & Caramel. This green mask reduces inflammation and evens skin tone with cucumber, cools the skin with mint, has anti-aging properties with matcha. What gets better than that?
- 1 Tsp Matcha Powder
- 1 Tsp Grated Cucumber (with skin)
- 1/2 Tsp Finely Chopped Mint.
So there you a have it, a few homemade masks I’ve tried over the past few weeks. I do a face mask about once a week, and I will keep trying new combinations-so stay tuned for those! I hope all of you are staying safe and positive during this time, and we will get through this together!
