So Halloween is over, time to take down the Halloween decor and put up Diwali Decor. I love when Diwali takes place in November-makes it much easier to have a decoration theme. Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights that celebrates triumph of light over darkness. It’s colorful, candles are lit, and it’s truly beautiful. So in true American Desi fashion, we decorate for Diwali just like we did for Halloween and just like we will do for Christmas. This year, I got my hands on a fair amount of decorative items-all available on Amazon that I can’t wait to put up. So here goes!
Diyas and Lights-We can’t have a festival of lights without lights right? I found these diyas (candles) on Amazon, that are now lined up on narrow fireplace mantle-making it colorful and festive-with electric tealights in them to add to add the “light” element. Next is a string of lights. I found diya shaped fairy lights that I will line up against the wall and across the fireplace. They’re battery operated, lightweight and easy to use.
Rangoli Puzzle-So I love a good rangoli. I think they’re beautiful. A rangoli is a beautiful art form where colorful designs are made out of fine powder, colored rice, or flowers. I’ve made my fair share of them over the years and as much as I love them, they’re very messy. BUT I found a rangoli puzzle from Kulture Khazana, which will do the job just fine. It’s pretty, colorful, decorative, and a family puzzle of putting it altogether. Can’t wait to put tealights around it!
Flowers-While I was I was living in India, my mother-in-law would haul marigolds for the Diwali decor and it was truly stunning. I happened to find some at Trader Joe’s here and I picked them right away. However, when I went to buy fresh ones this week they were all sold out for the season. So I settled on some Fall-themed flowers which have the same yellows and oranges that prominent throughout Diwali. So, the bouquet is now the centerpiece in my line of Diyas along my fireplace! More in this tiktok here!
So that is my Diwali decor haul this year. I love that there is so much to available on Amazon! May you all have a wonderful Diwali season! Love & Light to all!
