“Back to Basics” Skincare for that Everlasting Glow.

NO face make up in this photo. Just liquid eyeliner and liquid lipstick

If there’s one thing we’re all aiming for it is good skin. No matter the color, race or ethnicity; we all would like to do everything we can to get glowing, flawless skin. However, unlike what the ads and media tell you; good skin can be easily achieved with a few basic home remedies. Now, I’m sure all of you must have heard these before, but it’s always a good reminder. I am not a doctor or medical professional, but I’ve seen differences in my skin by incorporating these practices. So here is a quick and easy guide to get your glowing skin ASAP!

Wear Sunscreen: I cannot emphasize this enough. My dermatologist told me this when I was 17 years old. I’ve been wearing sunscreen ever since. Our skin needs to be protected even if we’re indoors all day because certain sun rays can even penetrate through windows (I think UVB rays-but don’t quote me). Therefore, a part from getting your 20 minute Vitamin D fix without sunscreen; it should be worn at all times. I’ve found that sunscreen has made my skin tone more even and it has slowed down aging as well.

Drink Water: Water works wonders. I actually went through a period in my life where I would forget to drink water, and that showed on my skin. My breakouts didn’t go away as quickly, my skin wasn’t as clear, and that obviously doesn’t make anyone feel good. Therefore, when I started becoming more mindful of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. It took sometime to get used to it, but I got there eventually. It has done wonders to my skin. It’s clearer, heals faster, and feels better overall.

Don’t Touch Your Face: So Covid-19 reminded us not to touch our faces, but this shouldn’t be done anyways. As gross as it is, we don’t realize where our hands and fingers have been throughout the day. So when our germ-filled fingers touch our face, it can lead to the spread of bacteria, which causes breakouts (how gross right?).

Get Plenty of Sleep: Oh sleep. One of the most underutilized tools for great skin. Did you know when we sleep our body is repairing itself? That includes our skin. When we don’t get enough sleep at night, our body does not go through that repair process. I’ve seen this in myself when it comes to multiple day weddings. With a couple days of continuous wedding festivities, I’m usually living on 5-6 hours of sleep and it’s not enough. My eyes are puffy, my skin is not as bright, and its very very visible that I’m tired. Therefore, if your lifestyle allows you to, get plenty of sleep.

Eat Healthy: Good skin isn’t just want you put on your face but it’s what you put in our bodies. Nature has so many food items that have vitamins and minerals for our skin! Why not eat well and take advantage of that?! Our green veggies hydrate and brighten the skin; omega-3-which is found in flaxseeds and fish help with the skin’s ability to retain moisture. So take advantage of the healthy foods around you!

So those are just a few tips I’ve incorporated into my lifestyle for my own skin. This list is probably information we’ve all heard before in some way, shape or form. However, we all need that reminder every now and then. Therefore, incorporate these tips and you’ll be on your way to good skin!
