A Letter to my Daughter Born on International Women’s Day (And Holi-this year)

To My Daughter,

Today is the day you were born 2 years ago. Today is International Women’s Day where we celebrate and advocate for women everywhere. And this year, today is Holi-The Indian festival of colors, which symbolizes new beginnings and triumph of good over evil.

Today is a day to celebrate you.

Over the past year, I’ve loved seeing you curiously explore the world around you. I’ve watched you gain confidence as you develop new skills, vocalize your wants and needs, and learn to trust yourself. I’ve watched you form your little personality based on what you want and feel, and I’m loving getting to know you as you become your own person.

As a girl of today, I’ll always tell you to never lose your sense of curiosity, stay true who you are, and make yourself heard. And as your mom, I’ll make it my job to ensure it’s safe enough to do so you’re able to do the same when you go out into the world.

This year, we’re beginning a new chapter: school. I’m super excited to see how this next phase impacts your life moving forward. I hope it allows you to continue to expand your wings and dream big as the world opens up for you.

I hope you know I’ll always love you, support for you, and stand up for you. You are truly the best thing to ever happen to me.

Love,

Your mom.
