7 Tips for At-Home Self Care during Quarantine

About two months ago, my eyebrows were freshly threaded, my nails were filled in, and my brand new hair cut was ON POINT! When we started getting buzz about quarantine happening, I managed to do a last minute run to the salon for all my bits: got my eyebrows and upper lips threaded, got a last quarantine wax, and got my gel nails removed. As quarantine began, I began to embrace a more simplistic way of life and modified my beauty and self care routine accordingly. So here a few tips to keep yourself together through this indefinite quarantine.

Don’t Touch Your Face: Despite the media telling us we shouldn’t touch our face, from a beauty standpoint we actually shouldn’t touch our face. It can spread dirt, infection, and all sorts of grossness.

Moisturize your Hands: We’re all constantly washing our hands to avoid the spread of infections and germs. However, our hands do get extremely dry in doing so. So after washes moisturize your hands to keep your hands from cracking and drying. At night, do a deep moisturizing to have the moisture soak in for a number of hours at one stretch. Personally, I like The Body Shop Almond Hand and Nail Cream. However, other at-home moisturizers, which work wonders are coconut oil and almond oil.

Try At-Home Face Masks: We have so much more time on our hands, which means more time for self care, and the best part: more time to play around with basic kitchen ingredients to DIY your own face mask. Did you know ingredients like honey, saffron, turmeric, and milk are so amazing for the skin?? I recently tried a mild mask with I loved, which included:

  • 1/2 Tsp of Raw Honey
  • 1 Tsp of Milk
  • Few Threads of Saffron

Give your Nails a Break: Let’s face it. We can’t go to the nail salon. However, it’s forcing us to give our nails a breather at home. Personally, I’m enjoying the low key maintenance of nails by simply clipping, moisturizing, and filing. After months of gel polish, my nails are getting the break, and they are already feeling stronger and healthier. In any case, shorter nails are recommended to avoid bacteria from settling in your nails

Give your Hair a Break: How often do we grab the straightener, curler, and hair dryer when we know we’re heading out somewhere-or even on a regular basis-now we can give our hair that well deserved break. Play around with hair masks and let your hair breathe! Let’s fall in love with our natural texture again :).

Maintain Your Eyebrows: The only advice I can offer with maintaining our eyebrows is to tweeze them regularly. To avoid over plucking, stick to the most obvious hairs which you KNOW are not part of your shape. With a magnifying mirror, you can easily see the extremely short hairs, which are for sure not a part of your shape, get those out and you’ll have decent brows through this time.

Massage your Face: One thing I’ve added to my nightly skincare routine is massaging my face, and I feel my skin is GLOWING. Giving my skin a lymphatic massage has not only drained unwanted toxins from my face but its also made my skin feel super soft and smooth afterward. I highly recommend giving it a try.

So there you have it. We don’t know when this quarantine is going to end, but all we can do is little things to make ourselves feel good. I hope these tips help during self isolation. We will get through this and stay safe everyone!
