3 Rainy Day/Indoor Activities to Keep Toddlers Entertained

Let me tell you something, it’s been an extremely wet January so far, which means that littles can’t go outside to take out their energy. Any parent can relate that it gets exhausting to perpetually entertain anybody under the age of 5. However, these last couple weeks have been a learning experience for me in terms of how to entertain littles when they’re mostly trapped indoors. So here are a few things that have worked in our house.

Kid Friendly Outings-Let’s start with the most obvious thing, the kid-friendly spots: whether it’s a Trampoline Park, Skate Rink, Indoor play areas, Children’s Museum, or even a restaurant. These areas will easily engage our littles and keep them entertained for hours. The only challenge is actually getting up and getting out of the house on a rainy morning. Other than that, these places do wonders. For Aisha, we had a play date at the trampoline park, which exhausted all her energy to the point that she was knocked out during her afternoon nap. It was great.

Household Tasks-I mentioned in my previous blog that I wanted encourage Aisha’s curiosity with household tasks. She loves shadowing me around the house so it’s literally become a game. The amount of running around she does around each task really takes out her energy. For example, we love emptying the dishwasher together. I’ll do what needs to be done, while she’ll take out some dishes, run to put them on the couch and then run and bring them back to me to put away-one by one. That’s a lot of running taken care of in a short amount of time. For more on that check out this Tiktok.

Doodle Mat-This is a huge blessing. I came across the Doodle Mat at Target and I knew I had to get it. Aisha loves to color, but I’m way too paranoid about her getting colors all over our walls. So this is the next best thing. A mat with multiple colors that show up once you add water, through a pen, paintbrush, or sponge shapes. Yet another item that keeps her occupied for a good amount of time. We’re using this one from Target.

So between these three ideas, our day goes by quickly. The good news is she is knackered by the end of the day, but the bad news is that I am exhausted by the end of the day too. However, a resting baby leads to a resting mama as well. Parents, what ideas do you have to occupy your littles?
