So, we all know that the entire world is at a standstill. With government-mandated lockdowns, working from home, self quarantining, and social distancing; most of us are not used to being at home for the entire day. However, in an effort to stop this horrific virus, we all have to do our part and stay home to be safe; and therefore figure out ways to entertain ourselves without going crazy. So here are 10 activities one can do during self-quarantine (honestly, how much TV can we watch?).
Read: That stack of books you’ve been wanting to read: now is a great time to get started on it! Reading allows us to escape the world around us and get lost within the pages, and the best part-you don’t realize where the time goes.
Take an Online Course: Wanting to learn something new, take an online course and acquire some knowledge. It’s a great way to keep your brain engaged, while being in one place.
Virtual Museum Tours: Did You know, you can Google Arts & Culture has virtual museum tours from places all over the world?? As silly as it sounds, it can be fascinating. So why not give it a try and learn something new?
Cook: That recipe you’ve been wanting to try? Go for it?? Wanting to explore different food options?? Now is the time to do it! I, for one, got so bored with my breakfast that I looked up quinoa breakfast bowls on Pinterest and found a new favorite: Spinach Mushroom Quinoa Breakfast Bowl.
Spring Clean: The weather is changing. It is almost time to clear out our winter wardrobe and make room for the summer wardrobe…now we have more time and can do so!
YouTube Tutorials: There are ALOT of tutorials of youtube one can follow to learn something new. If you’re looking to acquire a new skill for free, youtube is one way to do it. Personally, I’ve learned quite a few skill from YouTube-specifically when it comes to hairstyling or applying makeup.
Puzzles: Remember when we used to do puzzles with as a kid? Well, there are puzzles for adults too! It’s a great activity to get your eyes away from the screen, yet still keep yourself engaged.
Boardgames: Just like puzzles, boardgames are another great way to reconnect with friends and family at home and hang out. Whether it’s games you played as a kid or learning new games as an adult, it’s a fun activity to do during your quarantine.
Get Outside: Depending on where you live, you can use this time to reconnect with nature-as long as you maintain your 3 feet distance from the person next to you. Spring is a beautiful time of the year, and we can take advantage of this weather and get outside!
Connect With Your Loved Ones: Regardless, of the activities above, being at home can feel extremely isolating. Therefore, it’s so important for all of us to remain connected with our friends and family through social media, facetime, or an old fashioned phone call. Call your parents, call your grandparents, call your friends and family…it’s the best way to stay together through this time.
Self Care: Finally, COVID-19 has induced significant anxiety and panic around us, which is something we have to manage through self care. Meditation, pampering yourself with a skincare routine, or watching something that makes you laugh are all great ways to lighten our own moods and get through this time ahead.
We’re all in this together, and hopefully this will pass soon!
